Foundayo: The Next Weight-Loss Pill, and What It Means for You

Foundayo

A new oral weight loss medication has arrived in the United States. Here’s what you need to know, including when it could become available in the UK.

You may have seen the name Foundayo appearing online, or heard it being mentioned alongside the Wegovy pill. It is the next oral weight-loss medication to watch, and questions about it are already landing in our inbox. Here’s the clear picture of what Foundayo is, how it compares with existing GLP-1 medication, and when it may become available here.

What Foundayo is

Foundayo is the brand name for a medicine called orforglipron, made by Eli Lilly, the company behind Mounjaro. It is a once-daily tablet that works in the same broad family as Wegovy and Mounjaro, reducing appetite and helping you feel fuller for longer. It was approved in the United States on 1 April 2026 for adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related condition.

What makes it different from the Wegovy pill

This is the part people are most curious about. The Wegovy pill, which we launched this month, is effective but demanding. It has to be taken on an empty stomach, with only a small amount of water, and nothing else for the next 30 minutes. Foundayo is built differently. It can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, and without the water rules. For anyone who finds a strict routine hard to keep, that flexibility is a real advantage, and we would rather say so plainly than pretend otherwise.

How well does it work?

In its trials, Foundayo produced average weight loss of around 11 to 12 percent of body weight at the highest dose over roughly 72 weeks, alongside diet and activity. That is meaningful, though as a general guide it is a little less than the figures reported for the strongest injections. As with all weight loss medication, those are trial averages, and individual results vary.

What about safety?

Foundayo carries the same broad cautions as others in its class. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal, such as nausea and constipation, usually mild and worst in the early weeks. In the United States it also carries a boxed warning about a rare risk of thyroid tumours seen in animal studies. That is why it is not suitable for people with certain thyroid or endocrine conditions. Like all prescription weight loss medications, Foundayo should only be prescribed following an appropriate clinical assessment.

When will it reach the UK?

This is the question we’re asked most often.

At the moment, Foundayo is not licensed in the UK, which means it cannot legally be prescribed or supplied here.

Eli Lilly has submitted the medication for regulatory review in several countries, including the UK. If approved by the MHRA, private availability is expected towards the end of 2026 or during 2027. NHS availability, which is considered separately by NICE, is likely to follow later.

Until MHRA approval has been granted, no legitimate UK provider can prescribe or dispense Foundayo.

A word of caution

Whenever demand for a new weight loss medication grows, unregulated sellers are never far behind. If you see Foundayo being advertised online before it is licensed in the UK, avoid it.

Medicines purchased through unregulated websites may be counterfeit, incorrectly dosed or contain completely different ingredients. While the prices can be tempting, the risks simply aren’t worth it.

If a medicine hasn’t been approved by the MHRA, there is no legitimate route to obtaining it in the UK, regardless of how convincing a website or social media advert may appear.

How we will help

When Foundayo is approved for use in the UK, we will assess it properly. If it is right for our patients, we will offer it through the same regulated, clinician-led route as everything else we do. Our job is not to sell you the newest name. It is to help you choose the option that suits you, whether that is an injection, the Wegovy pill today, or Foundayo when it arrives. We will keep you posted here the moment there is real news.
