Weight Loss Hypnotherapy Services

Weight-loss hypnotherapy can support more than just diet and exercise; it can also address mental factors. We offer the tools that may support long-term weight management.

How Hypnotherapy Can Work

Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy combines guided deep relaxation with behavioural techniques. Working with the unconscious mind can help identify and shift the emotions and thought patterns that may contribute to overeating, which may contribute to weight gain. It helps shift how you think about food, movement, and yourself. So healthy behaviours may feel more natural and manageable over time.

It can help you:

Our hypnotherapy service, led by certified hypnotherapist Eteri McKenzie, can support patients in exploring underlying behavioural patterns that may contribute to unhealthy eating habits and motivation issues.

Using a blend of neuroscience, positive psychology, and solution-focused techniques, Eteri helps clients calm the brain’s stress response and build sustainable emotional and behavioural change. Sessions are available online and in person in Edinburgh.

What to Expect from Your Hypnotherapy Sessions

Each session takes place in a safe, confidential space. Our sessions are available online, allowing you to attend from anywhere in the UK. During your first session, Eteri will take the time to understand your personal weight loss goals. You’ll discuss your relationship with food and any underlying emotions or stress that may be contributing to overeating and weight gain.

Your hypnosis begins from your second session, where Eteri will guide you into a relaxed state. This is where the unconscious mind becomes more receptive to engaging with positive suggestions and healthier habits. The NHS describes hypnosis as a calm, focused state similar to reading a good book. You won’t be asleep or unaware of the things happening around you.

Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss

As an evidence-informed weight-loss method, hypnotherapy can be used as part of a broader weight-management plan. Whether you’re on a prescription weight-loss treatment or not, hypnotherapy can offer support. Explore the ways it may benefit you below.

Reduce stress and cortisol levels

Chronic stress may influence fat retention. Hypnotherapy may support managing stress by helping calm the mind and body, which can influence cortisol levels, the hormone linked to abdominal weight gain.

Improve sleep and energy

Better rest can support better choices and more consistent motivation. Poor sleep is often linked to lower energy levels, increased appetite and weight gain. Addressing sleep issues through hypnotherapy sessions can help support more consistent progress toward your weight goals.

Reinforce positive daily choices

Strengthen your commitment to healthy eating, exercise, and a positive mindset. Self-hypnosis techniques are taught during your sessions to help you maintain these positive lifestyle changes between appointments.

Complement the physical effects of medication

Mental clarity supports the consistency and focus needed for lasting results. Hypnosis for weight loss is considered one of several complementary therapies that support people who are overweight or obese in successfully losing weight. It also supports other weight-loss methods, such as a healthy diet plan, exercise, and medical weight-loss treatment.

Hypnotherapy is suitable for most adults. However, it’s not recommended for individuals with underlying psychiatric conditions, including psychosis or some personality disorders. Eteri will discuss your suitability during your initial consultation.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Weight-loss hypnotherapy is not a standalone cure for being overweight or obese. It serves as a form of support alongside other weight-loss treatments, such as a healthy diet plan, exercise, and prescription medication.

Patients who combine hypnosis with behavioural therapy alongside their treatments may experience greater success in their weight-loss journey. They may experience improved outcomes and maintain a healthy weight for longer than those who don’t.

Most weight-loss treatments, including prescription medications, diet plans, and exercise programmes, address the physical aspects of weight management. Using hypnotherapy to lose weight works by targeting the habits, emotions and thought patterns keeping patients overweight and obese.

When combined with medical or nutritional support, it can help create the psychological conditions that support sustainable weight loss.

Yes, online hypnotherapy sessions can be as effective for many people. The core therapeutic process can still be delivered well in video format. Many patients enjoy the benefits of attending weight loss hypnotherapy online. The convenience and flexibility help keep them consistent over time.

Results will vary between patients and can depend on your consistency. Other factors, such as how long certain habits have been present or whether stress and emotional eating are the main contributors to your weight, also play a role.

Some patients notice changes in their relationship with food within a few hypnotherapy sessions. Others working with longer-standing behavioural patterns tend to see significant weight loss as progress builds gradually. Hypnotherapy tends to produce sustainable results when maintained alongside other treatments, rather than used as a short-term intervention.

Both self-hypnosis and meditation involve achieving a calm, focused state and can be useful in managing stress and anxiety. The difference between the two is in intention and direction. Meditation is typically open and awareness-based, observing thoughts and a broader sense of presence.

However, self-hypnosis is goal-oriented and focuses the unconscious mind on a specific outcome. It’s less about clearing the mind and more about guiding it towards your goal. This makes it a practical tool patients can use between sessions.
