What is Mounjaro?

Woman Prepares Mounjaro Injection – Prescription Weight Loss Solution

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) was originally developed for type 2 diabetes and is now authorised in the UK for weight management in eligible adults. It targets both GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors, which work together to regulate blood sugar, slow digestion, and make you feel fuller for longer.

As a once-weekly injection, Mounjaro has been extensively studied in clinical trials for prescription weight loss treatment. In clinical studies, participants experienced significant weight loss, with meaningful average reductions in body weight reported during longer-term treatment.

At Envigore, it is available as part of a personalised Mounjaro weight loss treatment plan that includes clinician oversight, ongoing check-ins, and access to our wider support services.

How Does Mounjaro Work?

Understanding how Mounjaro works can help you understand what to expect from your treatment. As a tirzepatide injection, it activates two gut hormones that play a key role in appetite regulation and glucose control.

The SURMOUNT clinical trial programme did extensive research into tirzepatide for weight loss. Participants lost an average of 20.9% of their body weight over 72 weeks, with some completing the full course seeing reductions of up to 22.5%.

Here is how the process works:

How Effective Is Mounjaro?

Up to 10 %
Average Body Weight Lost Over 72 Weeks (at the highest dose)
Backed by extensive clinical trials and approved by UK regulators, it can help produce positive results when paired with lifestyle changes. Individual results vary and clinical trial results should not be interpreted as a guarantee of the amount of weight an individual will lose.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle your whole body benefits

Many participants saw meaningful results in the SURMOUNT [1] trial:

  • 85–91% of people on tirzepatide lost 5% or more of their weight (vs. 35% on placebo)
  • About half to over half of people on the higher doses (10–15 mg) lost 20.9% or more of their weight (vs. just 3% on placebo)

Why Choose Mounjaro with Envigore?

We offer more than just medication. Envigore provides a comprehensive weight loss service that combines clinician-reviewed prescriptions with holistic support, including dietitian coaching, hypnotherapy and physical training programmes.

Our approach is built around your whole health, not just the number on the scale. We take into account the full picture of your health, including any related conditions your prescriber identifies.

Disclaimer: This content is for informational purposes only and should not be considered medical advice. Mounjaro is a prescription-only treatment and requires a full medical assessment to determine suitability. Results may vary, and treatment is provided only after consultation with a qualified healthcare professional. Always consult your GP or a licensed clinician before beginning your weight loss journey.

Mounjaro Doses Explained

Your treatment will follow a gradual dosing schedule to support your body’s adjustment.

2.5 mg

Starting dose (4 weeks)

5 mg

7.5 mg

10 mg

12.5 mg

Continue (4 weeks each)

15 mg

Maintenance (4 weeks +)

Your comfort comes first.

If you’re experiencing side effects or feel good about your progress, it’s okay to stay on your current dose longer than four weeks, where clinically appropriate and under prescriber guidance. A higher dose isn’t automatically right for everyone. Dose decisions should be based on how you respond and how well you tolerate the medicine, not just on weight loss.

If anything’s unclear, just ask. Our clinicians are here to help.

Who is Eligible for Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is suitable for eligible adults with obesity or weight-related health risks. It works best as part of a wider plan that includes healthier eating, more movement and ongoing support. At Envigore, we ensure you receive the right medical care in line with current clinical guidance.

Eligibility is also assessed in line with the current NICE clinical guidance and prescription criteria. At Envigore, every assessment is reviewed by a qualified prescriber to ensure medically appropriate care.

Once you complete our simple online consultation, our clinical team will guide you through the next steps to confirm if Mounjaro is right for you.

How To Use Mounjaro Treatment for Weight Loss

Taking Mounjaro is straightforward, and with our guidance, you’ll feel confident from day one. Each dose comes in a pre-filled pen ready to use, with no mixing or measuring required. You can self-administer the injection at home, rotating between injection sites to prevent irritation.

You can inject Mounjaro into three areas of the body:

  • Stomach: At least 2 inches away from your belly button

  • Thigh: Front of either thigh

  • Upper Arm: Back of the arm (if someone helps you)

Make sure to rotate injection sites weekly to prevent irritation. Avoid injecting into areas that are sore, red, or bruised.

With your first order, we’ll provide all the essentials, including a sharps bin and full instructions. Mounjaro is available through Envigore on a private prescription, reviewed by a qualified clinician as part of a full clinical assessment, in line with MHRA standards.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injection that activates two natural hormones, GLP-1 and GIP. Together, they reduce hunger, improve sugar control, and support significant weight loss.

In clinical trials, patients lost an average of 20.9% of their body weight [1] when tirzepatide was combined with healthy lifestyle changes.

Mounjaro activates theGLP-1 and GIP receptors, while Wegovy targets one (GLP-1). This dual action may result in greater average weight loss for some patients.

In the head-to-head SURMOUNT-5 clinical trial, participants using tirzepatide achieved a greater average reduction in body weight at 72 weeks than those using semaglutide. The right weight loss option depends on your individual health history, which your Envigore prescriber will assess during your consultation.

You can explore how these treatments compare on our GLP-1 weight loss injections page.

Treatment duration varies between individuals and is determined by clinical response, tolerability and ongoing medical assessment.

Mounjaro has been extensively studied and is approved for weight management in eligible patients. Like all medications, it comes with potential side effects, which your prescriber will review with you. Treatment is only provided following a full clinical assessment.

Switching from other weight loss injections, such as Wegovy, may be possible for some patients. The right approach depends on your current treatment, dosage and medical history, so this should always be guided by a prescriber.

Weight loss rarely follows a straight line, and it’s common for progress to slow temporarily as your body adjusts. Your prescriber may review your lifestyle habits, treatment plan and dose progression before recommending any changes.

Mounjaro comes as a multi-dose pre-filled pen for a once-weekly injection in the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate sites weekly to reduce irritation. Always follow the instructions supplied with your specific pen.

If it’s within 4 days (96 hours), take the missed dose as soon as possible. If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take your next dose as scheduled. Do not take two doses to make up for a missed one and ensure there are at least three days between doses.

Store in the fridge between 2°C and 8°C. Once opened, it can be kept at room temperature (under 30°C) for up to 21 days.

Your delivery includes your prescribed pens, a sharps disposal bin, needles and swabs, a measuring tape, and full instructions. Our care team will guide you through your first injection.

You’ll start on the lowest dose (2.5mg) and increase it gradually over time, as guided by your prescriber, to reduce side effects and improve effectiveness.

There’s no special diet you need to follow. Eating balanced meals with lean protein, fibre, fruit, vegetables, and healthy fats can help support your weight loss and keep you well-nourished while you’re on treatment.

Not sure where to start? Our registered dietitian can give you personal advice and help you build an eating plan that fits your goals and your lifestyle.

Weight regain is common and can occur after stopping Mounjaro. In the SURMOUNT-4 randomised trial, participants who discontinued tirzepatide regained an average of 14 percentage points of body weight. Those who remained on treatment maintained or further improved their results.

Mounjaro works best as part of a long-term weight-loss programme, paired with a healthy diet, regular physical activity and sustainable lifestyle habits.

If you’re nearing your goal weight or thinking about stopping treatment, talk to your prescriber first. They can help you decide whether a maintenance dose, continued support, or an alternative treatment is the right next step for you.

Yes. Eating smaller, lighter meals, avoiding fatty foods, and staying hydrated often helps. Our team can advise if symptoms persist.

No. Mounjaro is not classified as habit-forming. Your prescriber will discuss the right approach for your individual circumstances.

Not everyone gets side effects with this prescription-only medicine, but stomach-related symptoms are common. More than 1 in 10 people may get nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, or other digestive issues, especially when starting treatment or increasing your dose.

Taking your weekly injection as prescribed, eating balanced meals with healthy fats, and staying hydrated may help reduce discomfort.

If symptoms carry on or get worse, you can speak to our care team, especially if you take other medications or have existing health problems.

In animal studies, tirzepatide caused thyroid C-cell tumours in rats. It is not known whether this risk applies to humans.

As a precaution, Mounjaro should not be used by people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2).

Before starting tirzepatide for weight loss, your prescriber will review your medical history and any existing health problems to ensure treatment is appropriate. If you notice a lump or swelling in your neck, persistent hoarseness, or difficulty swallowing, seek medical advice promptly.

Yes. Mounjaro can affect how well the contraceptive pill works, particularly when you first start treatment and after each increase in dosage. Tirzepatide slows stomach emptying, which may reduce the absorption of oral contraceptives.

Before starting a Mounjaro weight loss injection, make sure your prescriber is aware of all other medications you take, including hormonal contraception, so they can provide personalised advice.

At Envigore, we aim to create informed, judgment-free conversations about weight loss. Drawing on trusted medical research, our content helps readers explore Mounjaro for weight loss and the factors that can contribute to weight gain.
